Nrityaranjani Fine Arts Academy

Courses

Nrityaranjani Fine Arts Academy established in the year 1989 by Guru Smt. Revathi Srinivasraghavan imparts training in Bharatanatyam to students from the age of five.

Training:

Students of this academy receive intense training at various levels as needed for them to learn a Bharatanatyam repertoire or Margam

What is Repertoire or Margam?

Margam means a path or a course followed. It is one full definite course where in dance items are performed in a traditional order. The items that are included are Alarippu, Jatiswaram, Shabdam, Varnam, Padam, Tillana and Shloka or Verse. Other than these, Pushpanjali, Kauthukam (Kauvutvam), Mallari, Javalis, Vatsalya Padam, Tirupugazh, Tevaram and others are also found in the repertory of BharatNatyam.

The repertoire is categorized into three brackets namely ‘Nritta’, ‘Nritya’ and ‘Natya’ mentioned in ‘Natya Shastra’ and followed by all major Indian classical dance forms. ‘Nritta’ is a technical performance where the dancer presents pure Bharata Natyam movements emphasising on speed, form, pattern, range and rhythmic aspects without any form of enactment or interpretive aspect. In ‘Nritya’ the dancer communicates a story, spiritual themes, message or feelings through expressive gestures and slower body movements harmonised with musical notes. ‘Natyam’ is usually performed by a group or in some cases by a solo dancer who maintains certain body movements for certain characters of the play which is communicated through dance-acting.

Along with this training, students also appear for practical and theory examinations in Bharatanatyam.

Examination:

The academy is affiliated with AKHIL BHARATIYA GANDHARVA MAHAVIDYALAYA and offers coursesfrom Prarambhik to Alankar

At the end of each level, every student will appear for the exam at that level and on successful completion will get a government certificate. This certificate has been of great help to many students for their college admissions.
